Hartford Marathon Foundation To Hold CTfastrak 15K & Team Relay This Sunday, April 17, 2016

(Newington, CT) -- The Connecticut Department of Transportation announced today the second running of the CTfastrak 15K & Team Relay which will take place this Sunday, April 17, 2016 on the CTfastrak bus-only roadway. The event is organized and operated by the Hartford Marathon Foundation. The race is a point-to-point 15 kilometer (9.3 miles) course for solo runners and relay teams of two or three runners.

The CTfastrak 15k & Team Relay will begin at 9 a.m. Sunday at the CTfastrak Downtown New Britain Station, located at 327 Main Street, and continue on the dedicated roadway through Newington and West Hartford. The race will end on Allyn Street in downtown Hartford.

"This is another great opportunity for thousands of central Connecticut individuals to actively use and learn more about CTfastrak and its transit options," said CT Department of Transportation Commissioner James Redeker.

"Runners are looking forward to competing on the smooth surface in this unique point-to-point race followed by a fabulous post-race gathering to celebrate their accomplishment," said Beth Shluger, race director and CEO, Hartford Marathon Foundation.

Regular CTfastrak bus service will be detoured and operate using temporary bus stops outside stations during the event, and I-84 Eastbound Exit 48A will be closed for the duration of the event.

The CTfastrak Bus Rapid Transit system provides direct service to and from Waterbury, Cheshire, Southington, Bristol, Plainville, New Britain, Newington, West Hartford, Hartford, East Hartford and Manchester with routes that take advantage of the bus-only CTfastrak roadway. The CTfastrak system offers a one-seat, no-transfer ride to many major regional employment, education, shopping and healthcare destinations as well as connections to the New Haven Line-Waterbury branch rail in Waterbury and Amtrak service in Hartford. CTfastrak recently marked its First Anniversary and the goal of servicing over three million riders. A new 4.5 mile multi-use trail runs parallel to the CTfastrak bus-only roadway from New Britain to Newington Junction.
